The new fulfillment system is compatible with the shipping technology used by Jet.com - the online retail startup Walmart bought two years ago. The new system also aims to reduce what the retailer calls split shipments - online orders that arrive in multiple packages from different warehouses, Ravi Jariwala, a company spokesman, told the Journal. The new system will require suppliers to store their products at more Walmart fulfillment locations across the country in order to be available for cheaper ground shipping. The move was geared to have more products delivered via ground shipping, which is a far cheaper mode than shipping a bottle of detergent using air delivery. The move came as a surprise to many of its suppliers, who saw sales fall on as a result. Walmart will get you your online order, unless it costs too much to ship, and then it will tell you it’s out of stock, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
